The Egyptian Armed Forces recently organized a visit for a delegation of Military Attachés from Arab and foreign Embassies accredited to their respective countries to the Berenice Naval Base. This visit is part of the ongoing schedule of visits arranged by the Egyptian Armed Forces for Military Attachés.

The visit included a tour of the Base’s facilities, where the delegation was briefed on the construction phases of the Base and its crucial role in securing the maritime borders of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Additionally, the delegation conducted an inspection tour of several newly joined naval vessels to familiarize themselves with their advanced weapon systems and combat capabilities, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The Head of the Military Attachés Association in Cairo expressed pride in these visits organized by the Egyptian Armed Forces for Military Attaché members, praising the noticeable developments recently witnessed in the Navy. The delegation also extended their gratitude to the Egyptian Armed Forces for their constant effort to keep them informed about their capabilities and assets, enabling them to safeguard the nation's interests.

This underscores the Egyptian Armed Forces commitment to enhancing military cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries.

On 15 January 2020, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated Berenice Military Base, the largest in the region of the red sea, official media has reported.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several Arab and foreign officials and ministers, including the President the United Arab Emirates (then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi) and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Mohammed bin Zayed Sultan Al-Nahyan.

The 150,000-acre Berenice - one of Egypt’s newest Military Bases - is located on the Red Sea coast along Egypt’s southern borders and includes a naval base, an airbase, an army hospital, some combat and administrative units, and fields of shooting and training for all weapons.

The base was reported to have aimed at “protecting and securing the southern Egyptian coasts, protecting economic investments and natural resources in the area, confronting security challenges within the Red Sea, and securing global navigation traffic through the Red Sea to the country’s Suez Canal and related economic areas.”

In 2017, Al-Sisi inaugurated Egypt’s first Mohamed Naguib Military Base in the country’s eastern coastal province of Matrouh, which was said to be the largest in the Middle East. (Egyptian Ministry of Defense; Agencies; Photo © Egyptian Ministry of Defense)
