The Egyptian Ministry of Defense Search and Rescue Center executed the “Egypt-10” exercise with the participation of personnel from the Navy and Air Forces, along with representatives from relevant ministries, executive bodies in the Red Sea Governorate, and the Egyptian Red Crescent.
The exercise involved implementing a realistic scenario for the rescue of a ferry that capsized with 250 individuals of various nationalities on board while sailing off the Egyptian coast within the Red Sea Governorate.
The Ministry of Defense Search and Rescue Center received a distress signal from the stricken ferry after it collided with coral reefs, the Ministry said in a statement.
Immediately, an aircraft “HIL-Augusta” and several naval vessels, carrying rescue teams and administrative personnel, were dispatched to the incident site to respond promptly, following all global safety procedures and systems in search and rescue operations.
The “Egypt-10” exercise reaffirms the commitment of the Armed Forces General Command to collaborate with all state agencies and institutions through practical exercises to train on various scenarios, ensuring a swift response to any risks and crises that may confront the Egyptian state.
