Outgoing Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Attiyah celebrated Wednesday the Secretary General-designate Dr. Abdullatif Rashid Al-Zayani.

Al-Zayani is to take over today, April 1st, 2011.


Al-Attiyah commenced the celebrations by congratulating Al-Zayani on his new position, wishing him success. He also congratulated him on the GCC leaders' confidence in his appointment.

He stressed that this trust is the culmination of a successful and memorable resume in national contributions, as well as a highly professional and academic qualification. Al-Attiyah also expressed confidence that Dr. Al-Zayani will enrich the work of the GCC and promote a joint GCC work.

Furthermore, Al-Attiyah expressed his deep appreciation for all the tireless efforts that was carried out by the Assistant Secretaries-Generals and the heads of missions in their respective areas of work, praising the efforts of general managers and heads of sectors and units, directors of departments, and the missions and offices in New York, Brussels, Muscat and Manama as well as all staffers of the General Secretariat.
