BAE Systems have welcomed three Emirati students as they begin an 18 week internship at our Military Air and Information business in the North West of England.
This is the second year of a five-year internship program between Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), the Abu Dhabi-based investment and development company, and BAE Systems. The partnership, supported by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), aims to provide UAE youth with world-class technical and engineering skills.
Over the course of the internship, the students will be immersed in various real-life scenarios aligned to their engineering disciplines, including the integration of a robotics system for manufacturing tasks and the deployment of augmented reality technology.
Homaid Al Shimmari, Mubadala, Chief Executive Officer, Aerospace & Engineering Services, said: “Mubadala is committed to encouraging UAE youth to learn new skills and participate in educational initiatives. The organic foundations of the UAE have been, and will continue to be, our youth. Our partnership with BAE Systems helps to provide these future leaders with a refined skill set and enables them to have a strong focused approach to learning and innovation, both of which lie at the very heart of the nation’s vision for the future – a young, vibrant population who contribute to the ongoing development of our society.”
Chris Boardman, Managing Director, Military Air and Information at BAE Systems said: “We are delighted to welcome the second group of interns from the UAE to BAE Systems. Education and skills development in engineering and manufacturing is at the heart of our company and we are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to the Emirati engineers of the future. It supports the UAE’s national agenda, giving the young people the opportunity to develop a strong engineering focus.”
Through this joint internship program with Mubadala, we are able to support the UAE’s ambitions of developing a significant presence in the aerospace sector, whilst sharing and transferring knowledge.
The students will be mentored by BAE Systems aerospace and engineering experts, offering academic and career guidance. The intended outcome will accelerate the student’s academic success and career prospects upon their return to the UAE.
Established and owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi, the company’s strategy is built on the creation of partnerships and on long-term, capital-intensive investments that deliver strong financial returns, contribute to the growth and diversification of Abu Dhabi’s economy, and create opportunities for current and future generations in the United Arab Emirates.
Mubadala brings together and manages a multi-billion dollar portfolio of local, regional and international investments and partners with leading global organizations to operate businesses across a wide range of industry sectors.
