On behalf of the President of the Algerian Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of People’s National Army Staff, presided over the handover ceremony and installation of General Sid Ahmed Bourommana as Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie, replacing Major General Yahia Ali Oulladj on Saturday, 19th April, 2025.

After the welcoming ceremony, General Chanegriha inspected the National Gendarmerie personnel squares, lined up at the parade ground, before announcing the official installation of the new Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Algerian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

“On behalf of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, and in accordance with the presidential decree of 14th April, 2025, I officially install General Sid Ahmed Bourommana as Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie, replacing Major General Yahia Ali Ouladj,” General Chanegriha said.

“I therefore order you to work under his authority, follow his orders, and carry out his instructions, in the interest of the service, in accordance with the military regulations in force and the laws of the Republic, and in a spirit of loyalty to the sacrifices of our valiant Chouhada and the values of our glorious Revolution,” he added.

The General then presided over the ceremony for the transfer of the national flag to the new Commander and signed the minutes of the transfer of power.

After presiding over the transfer of power ceremony, General Chanegriha delivered a speech during his meeting with the officers and personnel of the National Gendarmerie, in which he emphasized that the requirements of the country’s security and stability are major challenges that every sincere Algerian must address:

“Meeting the requirements of security and stability in our country, fostering its development and progress, and giving it the place it deserves in the community of nations are major challenges that every person loyal to this blessed land is called upon to devote all their strength and efforts to meet.”

“This is the objective that the PNA strives to achieve, alongside all the faithful children of our country, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, by working to fulfill our commitment to the message of the valiant martyrs and to thwart the designs and aims of the enemies of the Algerian people,” he stressed.

The General emphasized that Algeria, for several reasons, remains a target, and that the enemies of the Algerian people still cannot accept its independence, nor can they tolerate the attachment of its faithful children to their revolutionary and civilizational heritage:

“These enemies, who have completely rejected our country's independence, nor have they ever accepted its resilience, strength, unity, social cohesion, and fusion with its army, will also not accept that the faithful children of Algeria attach themselves to the principles and ideals of their glorious National Liberation Revolution, which helped end the scourge of colonialism in the world.

This means that Algeria, for several reasons, was and will remain a target of its enemies, and as such, they do not want it to remain united, reconciled with itself, and proud of its history and civilizational heritage, nor do we want it to be built on the economic, social, and scientific levels, nor for it to be strong, resilient, and equipped with the elements of power.

Therefore, we will continue within the PNA, alongside all patriotic men, to work tirelessly to preserve the reputation of Algeria and the greatness of its people, through the strengthening of our military capabilities and deterrent means, so as to rigorously combat all those who consider undermining the sovereignty.”

At the end of this meeting, the General followed the interventions of certain executives and listened to their concerns, before signing the guestbook of the National Gendarmerie Command. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of National Defence)
