Major General Mattar bin Salim al-Balushi, Commander of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) chaired the 18th meeting of the GCC Land Forces Commanders (photo), Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.

The meeting was held from 05-07 March at the GCC Secretariat General in the Saudi Capital, Riyadh.

Meanwhile, Drill 10 of the Joint Peninsula Shield entered its third and last phase, using live ammunition, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Joint forces of the Saudi armed forces and land, maritime and air forces from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are taking part in the exercise together with selective Saudi security and military forces from both the Saudi Ministry of National Guard and the Ministry of the Interior.

The joint Dir Al Jazeera (Peninsula Shield) exercise (10) kicked off on 25 February 2019 in Dammam in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The exercise will conclude on Tuesday 12 March.

The two-week exercise aims to enhance joint cooperation, exchange expertise, further unify the military strategic concepts and plans, and increase coherence and synergy between the participating forces.

The Eastern Province is the largest province of Saudi Arabia by area and the third in terms of population. The Province is home to most of Saudi Arabia’s oil production. The region is also home of the City of Jubail, which hosts the Jubail Industrial City, a global hub for chemical industries. It is also a tourist area because of its location on the coast of the Persian Gulf, and proximity to the other Arab states of the Persian Gulf and the Riyadh Region
